About Me

I'm Mohammad Yaameen Zafar, a Mechanical Engineering student at UCL, and what drives me is wanting to build things that actually work in the real world, not just on paper. That's taken me from designing, building and testing a wind turbine from scratch, to CAD and simulation work at Clearzone, to building a hand-tracking system for a robotics startup — each one pushing me to close the gap between a good idea and something that actually performs. Long term, I want to be the kind of engineer who can take a project from a sketch to something people can rely on.

Independent project · 20-page report

Wind Turbine Design Project

Designed, simulated, 3D-printed, and experimentally tested a small-scale three-bladed horizontal-axis wind turbine — from CFD prediction through to measured electrical output and a full efficiency-loss analysis.

  • Designed and 3D-printed a three-blade HAWT in Fusion 360 with a NACA 4412 aerofoil, then ran ANSYS Fluent CFD (MRF, k-omega SST) predicting 2,476 mW — 86.8% of the 2,854 mW Betz limit.
  • Built an Arduino + INA219 test rig measuring 58.73 mW (2.1% efficiency), then traced the gap to generator mismatch, motor losses, and surface roughness across a 20-page report.

Project 02 · A-Level NEA

Design & Technology NEA Project

190/200 (highest in school)

CAD render of the bespoke reading-nook furniture system

My A-Level Design & Technology NEA — a full design-and-make project taken from research through iterative CAD, prototyping and manufacture. I designed a multi-functional reading-nook storage unit in CAD, refining the form across multiple iterations before making the final piece. Awarded the highest mark in the school and a near-perfect overall grade.

Project 03 · ELO Robotics

Hand Tracking System

Python computer-vision hand tracker reading motion from a laptop webcam, measuring the angle of each finger and translating it into live joint targets for a robotic hand. It is used to control the robotic hand at ELO (can’t show due to NDA).
